Mahindra XUV400 to get Pro variants; specs & features leaked before launch

The Mahindra XUV400 EV is one of the most popular electric SUVs in India. It offers a spacious cabin, a powerful motor, and a long range. However, it is not without its drawbacks. Some of the features and equipment on the XUV400 EV are outdated and need an upgrade.

That’s why Mahindra is planning to introduce a major update for the XUV400 EV sometime in early 2024. We have already reported this to you earlier. Now, we have some more details about the upcoming changes, thanks to a leaked internal document.

The leaked document reveals that the XUV400 EV will get a host of new features, both inside and outside. The most noticeable change will be the addition of dual 10.25-inch screens for the infotainment system and instrument cluster. The infotainment system will run on Mahindra’s Adrenox software, which offers wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Alexa connectivity, and other smart features. The instrument cluster will be fully digital, unlike the current model which has analogue dials with a small digital MID.

The dashboard will also get a new dual-tone finish, replacing the all-black theme of the current model. The steering wheel will be flat-bottomed, giving it a sporty look. The XUV400 EV will also get dual-zone climate control with a memory function, wireless phone charger, rear USB ports, and rear AC vents. These features will enhance the comfort and convenience of the passengers.

New trims for the XUV400 EV

The leaked document also reveals that the XUV400 EV will get two new trims – EC Pro and EL Pro. It is not clear if these trims will replace the existing EC and EL trims, or be offered alongside them. The difference between the new trims will be the battery size and range.

The EC Pro will get a 34.5kWh battery, which will offer a claimed range of 375km on the MIDC cycle. The EL Pro will get a larger 39.4kWh battery, which will offer a claimed range of 456km on the same cycle. Mahindra may also standardize the faster 7.2kW AC charger for both variants, which will reduce the charging time.

The motor and the performance of the XUV400 EV will remain unchanged. It will continue to produce 150hp and 310Nm of torque from a front axle-mounted electric motor. It will also have disc brakes on all four wheels, regenerative braking, and three drive modes.

Expected launch Date and price

The launch of the updated XUV400 EV is expected in early 2024. Mahindra may also unveil the XUV300 facelift around the same time, which will share some of the features with the XUV400 EV. The new features and trims will likely increase the price of the XUV400 EV, which currently starts from Rs 13.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

The updated XUV400 EV will compete with the Tata Nexon EV, which recently got a facelift with new features and design. The Nexon EV is the best-selling electric car in India, with a market share of over 70 percent. The XUV400 EV will have to offer a compelling package to challenge the Nexon EV’s dominance.
